An extraterrestrial arriving near Earth might be led to believe that the planet is a ball of water inhabited solely by fish. As Earth rotates on its axis, there is a moment when only the Pacific Ocean is visible. No land. No human beings—just fish, and some quite large ones at that.
There is also what humans call “Point Nemo,” the geographical location farthest from any landmass.
He would have to be very unlucky to be watching at the exact moment when boats participating in the non-stop, solo round-the-world race pass by. They move at great speed, yet—despite their size—they are sailed by just one person.
One might think that the entire human race consists of nothing more than that.
Fortunately, he need only wait a few seconds for humans to appear; within minutes, there they are—the other seven billion, nine hundred and ninety-nine million people—talking away and staying off the open sea.
